I love the story of Joseph. If you are unfamiliar with it, you can read it starting in Genesis 37, then it goes on and off through the end of the book. Long story short, God gave Joseph a dream that his brothers (all eleven of them) and his father and mother would bow down to him. A fairly simple dream, but profound for one who was the second to the last born.
Joseph made a huge mistake in holding on to his dream and he shared it with people who did not want to hear it. They made fun of him, shot his dream down and eventually sold him into slavery. The story goes on, and eventually we find Joseph in an Egyptian jail for a crime he did not commit. This is about as far as he could get from his dream. Nevertheless, he never let go of his dream.
The crazy part of the story that I love here, is that though he as far from his dream as we can imagine, God used these circumstances to bring his dream into fruition. Everywhere Joseph went, he found favor with those around him. Even in jail, he became close to the captain of the guard, and was in charge of the other prisoners. God had given Joseph a gift to be able to interpret dreams. Pharaoh’s baker and cupbearer were in prison for unspecified crimes. They had dreams and for some reason told them to Joseph. Joseph, with God’s help interpreted these dreams, the baker would die and the cupbearer would be set free and returned to Pharaoh’s service.
The dreams came true, and soon enough Pharaoh started having dreams. The cupbearer remembered Joseph and his gift for dream interpretation, and advised Pharaoh to seek his counsel. God gave Joseph the meaning of Pharaoh’s dreams and the answer to a big problem. As a result, Pharaoh pardoned Joseph of the crimes he did not commit, and made him second in charge of all of Egypt. Some time later, Joseph’s family came to Egypt, and not recognizing him, bowed down to him. Joseph’s dream was realized, his family bowed down to him!
This story is a lot more exciting and detailed than I had written it. I hit the highlights of the story so that I can get to my main point. If you have a dream from God, there is nothing at all that can stand in the way of it. You plus God equals the majority! It does not matter how far from your dreams you, even from the polar opposite side, God can still bring that dream into reality! Don’t give up on your dream, not if you are 5 years old, or 75 years old. It is never too late to dream, and it is never too late to give up on your dream. Seek after God and can bring that dream no matter how big or small into reality.
